89 Race Point Road

Eldred Mowery Jr., best known as the owner and operator of the Waterfront Apartments (the “Kibbutz”), 535 Commercial Street, and Marc Thomis established the Race Point Loft Condominium in 1989, two years after buying the property from Sumner E. Robinson. It was on this parcel, 89 Race Point Road, that a power plant and pumping station had once stood.

To judge from overlaid land plans, the footprint of this six-unit, three-story condo closely follows that of the main plant, suggesting that it might have incorporated some of the plant’s foundations or assumed its large size as the result of being grandfathered at a pre-existing, non-conforming scale.

  1. I bought the upstairs unit in the front on the left in 1990. Yes, it was the same structure as the electric company building. The downstairs outside walls remained and the second floor was added. I was the first to purchase a unit there — pre-construction. Great views of the road going to the dump. LOL.
