Amelia Souza Medeiros (1901-1995), a leader in the Provincetown court of the Catholic Daughters of America (later, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas) and a dedicated whist player, lived here for many years. She offered transient accommodations in the 1980s under the name Welcome Corner, a guest house managed by James Newman (b 1947). Her parents were Mary Philomena (Costa) Souza (±1874-1961), a native of São Miguel in the Azores, and Manuel J. Souza (±1869-1953), who worked for Frank A. Days & Sons and had also came to Provincetown from São Miguel.

Her husband, Frank Dutra Medeiros (±1886-1951), was a local boy who spent 45 years working for the Provincetown Cold Storage Company, 363-365 Commercial Street. Their son was Francis A. Medeiros.
