  1. Of course, like most buildings in town in recent years, it has been modified. The porch was added, as well as the bump out on the second floor above it. This was the home of Robert Silva and Veronica Leonard Silva, my aunt and uncle, along with their six children. Their sons Mark and Paul revitalized the Blessing of the Fleet 15 years ago by creating the Portuguese Festival. My uncle is the owner of BY&D Insurance Company. Their son David is one of the owners of The Red Inn. Uncle Bob’s father was the president of Seamen’s Bank. His portrait hangs in the bank. I am fairly sure that he was the first Portuguese bank officer. The family moved to new and much-needed bigger digs on Willow Drive (early ’60s?).
