The tranquil one-mile Beech Forest Trail takes visitors through a great variety of natural settings around Blackwater Pond, and is known to be a favorite spot of the poet Mary Oliver.
The Beech Forest Comfort Station of 1964 was designed by F. Clifford Pearce Jr. of the Park Service in a modernist vein. The ingeniously inviting Lily Pad Dock was constructed in the mid-1990s by a park crew.
